A JEWELRY MUSICAL FOUNTAIN IN THE ADRIATIC

This time, our projects on musical sources took us to Pescara (Italy).
Nestled between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso and Maiella mountain ranges, the province of Pescara is full of surprises. The area is predominantly mountainous, but it is also where the blue of the sea meets the golden sand of the Adriatic beaches, delighting all who visit.

We will focus our attention on Pescara, the region's capital and most populous city. The reconstruction of the old town, following the bombings it suffered during World War II, gave it a rather modern look.

A FILM STORY

But before continuing with our project, allow us a small subsection, to know how we got here...

Surely you all remember the scene of the famous film "Big" starring a young Tom Hanks playing a huge piano with his feet. It was filmed at the FAO Schwarz toy store, located on Fifth Avenue in New York.

This gigantic piano was designed by Remo Saraceni. His desire was always to connect the imagination of childhood with the technology of the future, and from that desire was born our customer, Big Piano.

AND WHAT JOINS A COMPANY OF ORNAMENTAL FOUNTAINS AND ANOTHER OF BIG PIANOS?

Through a public tender, the City Council of Pescara, calls a competition to remodel the piazza della Rinascita (piazza Salotto), a very central and busy place in the capital. The idea was to create a piano-fountain that, when stepped on, simultaneously activated light, sound and light, sound and water jets.

Big Piano, contacted our technical sales team to present the crazy idea, the never seen or created. An awesome challenge wherever there are them. How could it be otherwise, SafeRain, gladly accepted the challenge.

MUSIC, LIGHT AND WATER FOR SENSES

A total of 49 keys—spanning 4 octaves—are integrated into the exterior of an interactivefountain . The piano keys were crafted from marble and other fine materials. Each time a key is pressed, a jet of water is activated along the perimeter. At night, lighting is incorporated into all the water features, creating spectacular effects like this one.
As we mentioned earlier, developing this fountain a challenge from start to finish. There was nothing to draw on for inspiration; nothing like it had ever been created before.

MADE BY SAFERAIN

Type I lance nozzles with Ball joint to create parabolic jets radiating from the perimeter toward the center. To activate the jets, we used the AquaSwitch from SafeRain. It is a fast-acting flow switch that requires constant pressure in the manifold.
Professional Series pumps were used, which provide the necessary characteristics for the jet to flow consistently and, at the same time, allow all keys to operate simultaneously if required.
For lighting, we opted for SEA RGB rings, which allowed us to optimize the range and intensity of the light output.

We completed the project using the Smart Fountain Manager Pro Max. Our technology for the control of musical fountains is the key to the optimal operation of all elements, in an elegant, visual and coordinated way. He's the captain of the ship.

The added difficulty in this dynamic and musical fountain was to interpret the signal emitted by the piano keys and transform it so that our system interpreted the musical language of the keyboard to activate water, lights and sounds.

It was very fruitful to work with the Big Piano team that always facilitated the work, creating a magnificent symbiosis between the staff of both companies.

The small pescaresi enjoy on sunny days the great musical fountain. The Piazza Salotto has become an unmistakable place of meeting and fun.
